Corbieres
Corbières is a very large appellation located amongst the cities of Perpignan, Bezires and Carcassone near to the Spanish border between the Pyrénées and the Mediterranean coast. The Corbières appellation consists of over 38,000 acres and is responsible for the production of some 70 million bottles of wine per year, nearly all of which are red wines. There are 11 named terroirs in Corbières; arguably the most important of these are Roquefort des Corbières, Lagrasse, Signean, Gruissan and Boutenac. While styles vary greatly, red wines are blended comprising predominantly of the Grenache or Carignan grape varieties. Other important grapes in Corbières reds include, Syrah and Cinsault to produce full-bodied and rich wines with spicy fruit flavours. Corbières pairs well with game and steak, or strong pates and cheeses.
