Kakheti
Kakheti, which produces 70% of all Georgian wine, is located in the east part of the country and occupies the biggest winegrowing territory in Georgia with approximately 11,342 square kilometres. Known as ‘the cradle of Vine and Wine’, Kakheti is geographically divided in two parts by the Civ-Gombori Mountains with the Iori Valley on the west and the Alazani Valley on the east. Georgia’s best-known wine appellations are found in Kakheti, including Tsinandali, Teliani, Napareuli, Vazisubani, Mukuzani, Akhasheni, Gurjaani, Kardenakhi, Tibaani, Kindzmarauli, Manavi, Eniseli, Gremi. Well known for its Kakhetian traditional wines (or k’vevri wines), Kakheti is now establishing a name for itself in the production of some fabulous modern, fresh and fruity white wines and some powerful, round reds.
