Hungary
Hungary's climate is very favourable for quality wine growing because the average temperature is much higher than in Northern France, and autumn is rather dry with warm, sunny weeks until mid-October. Alongside this, a wide variety of soil types make Hungary perfect for viticulture and wine making – perhaps this explains why the country can boast some 22 wine growing regions.
One of the best-known of all Hungarian wine regions is Tokaj in Northern Hungary where excellent sweet dessert wines and full-bodied whites are produced. The honey-like Tokaj Aszú dessert wine is considered to be among the best wines in the world, brought fame to this wine growing territory. The uniqueness of Tokaj stems from occurrence of several natural attributes: climate, volcanic soil and centuries-long traditions of winemaking. Grape varieties include Furmint, Hárslevelu (Linden-leaf), and Yellow Muscat.
