Veneto
Veneto is an area in the North-east of Italy best known for its Bardolino, Valpolicella, Soave, Prosecco, Breganze, and Amarone wines. Smaller than Italy’s other main wine producing regions Piedmont, Tuscany, Lombardy, Puglia and Sicily, Veneto still manages to generate more wine than any of these big names. The region is home to 20 DOC zones over a large and diverse landscape stretching from Lake Garda in the west, Venice and the Adriatic Sea to the east and the ski resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo in the far north. Most of the wine in the region is produced along the southern foothills of the Alps. Lugana and Bardolino are two excellent wine regions near Garda. The vineyards of Valpolicella sit north of Verona where the world famous Amarone wines are made. Conegliano is located east of Asiago, and this is one of the principal wine villages for Prosecco wine production.
