Luxembourg
Luxembourg meaning “little fortress” is a small, land-locked country of around 1,000 square miles that shares its border with Belgium, Germany and France. All of its vineyards are located along the left-bank of the Moselle River bordering Germany where 1,300 hectares are planted with the country’s main grape varieties: Rivaner, Elbling Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Riesling. Despite its 2,000 year old winemaking history, Luxembourg is not really on the global wine map. There are only around 50 producers in Luxembourg, and most of the wine produced is consumed in Luxembourg, with the largest exports of wine going to Belgium (80%). Generally, the wines of Luxembourg are typically crisp, dry and refreshing.
