Devon

This is the fourth largest county in England with Cornwall to the west, Dorset and Somerset to the east. The Bristol Channel and the English Channel are to the North and the South respectively. Devon has a largely mild climate that is heavily influenced by the North Atlantic Drift, giving warm summers with occasional hot spells and generally mild winters. There is a geological divide running through this region called the Tees/Exe line, which separates the British lowlands (which is sedimentary rock based) from the higher grounds (which is largely metamorphic rock). Vines are planted on the higher ground giving them full access to the south facing slopes to take advantage of the sunshine during summer months. Grape varieties grown in this region include Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Seyval.
