Suffolk
Located in the east of England, this region has been producing grapes and wines since Roman times. The region has a mixture of limestone and chalk soils, coupled with warm summers and low rainfall, which provides an excellent environment for the cultivation of a number of different grape varieties. The most widely grown grape variety is Muller-Thurgau, although Madeleine Angevine, Seyval Blanc, Reichensteiner and Dornfelder are also grown. Suffolk produces white, red, rose and sparkling wines, some of which are varietal wines, however the bulk of production is blended. This region is known to be one of the driest in the UK, and therefore during the summer months especially at high risk of field and heath fires.
