Sussex
Vineyards across Sussex have been producing some world class wines in recent years, particularly in the production of premium sparkling white wine. Classic Champagne varieties such as, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are all ideally suited to the mixture of clay and chalk soil conditions of most Sussex vineyards. From award-winning sparkling wines of the Ridgeview Estate at nearby Ditchling, to Nutbourne Manor and Nyetember, located in the clay-based Weald and the chalky South Downs near Pulborough, all have contributed to the hugely successful wine making renaissance in the UK. Nutbourne's ‘Nutty’ won the International Sommelier blind trade tasting award in 2010, while Nyetimber's Classic Curvee has received Royal patronage as a favourite of Her Majesty, The Queen. The Nyetimber Estate comprises of 438 acres under vine, and is now the UK’s largest vineyard.
