Grenache

Grenache (also known as Abundante, Cannonau, Cannonau Selvaggio, Canonazo, Carignane Rosso, Elegante, Francese, Gamay del Trasimeno, Garnaccho Negro, Garnacha Comun and Garnacha Negra) is one of the most widely planted red wine grapes in the world. It ripens late so it needs hot, dry conditions. The grapes thin skins and pale colouring make them suitable for the production of full bodied, fruit rose wines. There is a second variety of the Grenache grape called Hairy Grenache, due to the soft downy texture on the underside of the vine leaves. Grenache grapes produce wines with high concentration of fruit, tannins and acidity.
