White
White wine is usually yellow, golden or straw-like in colour and it is produced from the grape juice and grape skin of green, gold or yellow-coloured grapes or from the juice (not the skin) of some varieties of red grapes. White wine grapes are grown across the world, throughout Europe, in Australia, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and across the United States in California, New York, Oregon and Washington. Generally speaking, most white wines are lighter both in terms of style and taste than the majority of red wines. The most popular white wine varietals are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Grigio/Pinot Gris, Semillon, Viognier and Chenin Blanc. It is preferable to serve white wines in narrow glasses with a tapered top which allows for better aroma concentration. White wines are versatile when it comes to food pairing, however most go particularly well with fish, chicken or pork and lighter dishes. The optimum white wine serving temperature is usually between 7-10°C.
