Chardonnay

Chardonnay is a green-skinned white grape variety that originated in the Burgundy wine region of eastern France. This grape has a reputation for relative ease of cultivation and its ability to adapt to different conditions - it can be grown in soil containing chalk, clay or limestone. Chardonnay grapes are an important component of many sparkling wines around the world, including champagne. These grapes are early ripening, which means that they perform well in wine regions that have a short winegrowing season, such as Burgundy. Harvesting of the Chardonnay grape takes place before autumn, before the rain sets in and brings the threat of rot.
