Petit Verdot
Petit Verdot (also known as Bouton, Carmelin, Heran, Lambrusquet Noir, Petit Verdau, Petit Verdot Noir, Verdot and Verdot Rouge) is a variety of red wine grape, primarily used in the classic Bordeaux blends. It produces small cylindrical bunched black berries. The name translates as “small green”, which relates to one of the problems during growing - the berries fail to develop without the correct climate. Due to the lateness of ripening, the Petit Verdot has over the past few years been used less and less in Bordeaux blends. However, California has seen an increase in the cultivation of Petit Verdot over recent years, as it is particularly well-suited to the climate in this part of the world.
