Each Balblair Vintage captures the essence of its year in a bottle. They’re only ever selected at the absolute peak of perfection. Handpicked, to represent the very best Balblair Distillery has to offer. You may have noticed that their bottles are not marked with an age statement, but simply with the year that the whisky was laid down. Every cask is regularly sampled, judged and selected by John MacDonald, the distillery manager, to assess its optimum maturation point. It will only ever be bottled at the point when a particular vintage says it’s ready.
Only a handful of American oak, ex-bourbon casks laid down in 2005 were selected by John MacDonald to form this classic Balblair expression. Light, fruity and refreshing, this classic vintage embodies Balblair's house style.
The Balblair 2005 has a light, almost sparkling gold colour. Its aromas are full bodied with the classic aromas of fresh green apples, ground spices and honey. The American oak ex-bourbon barrels used in maturation impart notes of oaky vanilla, leather and oranges with a hint of fragrant cut flowers and smoke. On the palate, Balblair’s signature style of citrus orchards is followed by the intense sweetness of toffee and vanilla. It is rounded off by a deliciously spicy, long finish. This superb dram is bright and full of character, a ray of sunshine in a bottle.
