This estate makes Italy's finest sparkling wines from its 200 hectares of vineyard situated in the western part of the Franciacorta zone in a natural amphitheatre. The glacial soil is full of stones, and provides the ideal environment for the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes used in the production of their Franciacorta. Bellavista, meaning 'beautiful view' in Italian, was founded by Vittorio Moretti in the early 1970s, with the first vintage produced in 1979. In 1981, he met a young winemaker, Mattia Vezzola and this partnership transformed Bellavista into Italy's leading producer of quality sparkling wine.
Bellavista owns 190 hectares of vines in 10 communes within the Franciacorta DOCG. The vineyards have some of the best exposure, character and expressive potential in the area. From these vineyards, they produce 103 different parcels of wine. The Vittorio Moretti stems from a desire to express the great potential of the finest crus of Franciacorta in a cuvée of almost equal measures of Chardonnay and Pinot Nero. The area's distinctive microclimate enables Bellavista to offer a Franciacorta of exceptional character and personality.
The cold spring with little sun resulted in a delayed bud break by about 15 days. Overall the weather conditions supported growth well, with different and ideal levels for hydration, the development of vegetative growth, the composition of the cluster and then its concentration. Potential products of excellent quality were obtained in different areas of Franciacorta.
The Vittorio Moretti is only produced in exceptional vintages such as 2008. Individual parcels are specially selected for the blend. Made in the 'traditional method', 35% of the parcels are fermented and matured for at least seven months in small oak barrels. The Vittorio Moretti is released 7 years after harvest.
Pale straw with a remarkable youthful glint and an extremely fine mousse. A broad, deep nose with perfumes of white stone-fruit, with hints of chestnut, flower honey, white flowers and candied citrus fruit. These follow through to the palate, along with a refreshing acidity, mouth-filling depth and complexity, textured finesse and an incredible persistence on the dry finish.
