Located in the ‘Heart of Speyside’, BenRiach displays all the traditional charm of a Speyside distillery. Built by John Duff in 1898, BenRiach draws its water from the Burnside springs located underground, deep below the distillery. BenRiach became independent in 2004, having been purchased by The BenRiach Distillery Company Limited. This independent ownership allows them to experiment with several interesting wood finishes and they continue to produce whisky from both peated and non-peated malted barley. The BenRiach portrays its own uniqueness through the particular methods and skills of the men who craft the whisky, the ingredients used, the distinctive copper stills and the high quality casks selected for maturation.
Bottled at 43% vol, the BenRiach 10 Year Old is classically Speyside in character. The cask formula focuses on ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks – the types of wood they tend to favour at BenRiach.
The BenRiach 10 Year Old has aromas that are fresh and lively, with a combination of crisp, green orchard fruits, stem ginger and hints of tangerine, which mellow to creamy vanilla with a delicate note of mint and a gentle twist of citrus, all held together with a sweet barley back note. The flavours are of warm toasted oak spices flooding through green apple skins and dried apricots, ripening to hints of peach and soft banana. Subtle touches of aniseed and lemon zest create a contrasting edge to the fruit and add an intriguing character to the long, crisp barley finish. It has a beautiful light golden colour.
