Dewar's Whisky will always hold a special place in our hearts here at Exel Wines HQ in Perth. They are so much part of the heritage in Perth, that most of us have either worked for them in the past or know someone who has. Founded in 1846 by John Dewar, John Dewar & Sons Ltd has grown from a small wine and spirits merchant shop in Perth, Scotland, to become a global brand. It is Perth's world-famous blend. John Dewar was one of the first Scotsmen to blend whisky, and was the first to blend it right. So much so, he put his name on the bottle as a mark of quality.
Dewar's 12 Year Old has honey, homemade toffee apple, and fudge aromas. It is comfortingly warm, buttery, and mellow. This is combined with juicy raisins and fresh citrus, as well as subtle vanilla. It is clean, full, and lively. However it is not one dimensional as it is also rich with flavours of melted caramel and with a trace of oak. Dewars 12 Year Old is rounded, smooth, and long.
ABV = 40.0%.
This iconic whisky was created in 1896 by Matthew Gloag. Matthew was born to the trade – his grandfather, also called Matthew, founded the family wine and spirit business in Perth in 1835, and his uncle William started blending whisky in 1860.
Over the years, generations of the Gloag family have worked with expert blenders, stillmen, coopers, merchants and retailers to make this whisky Famous.
Three kinds of cask add character to The Famous Grouse whisky as it is maturing. It’s the magic of the cask that lends The Famous Grouse its unique flavour. The European oak they use in the sherry casks and the American oak in the bourbon ones make sure each dram is full of flavour. Each has its own qualities, and each adds its own subtle shades of character to the whiskies that go into The Famous Grouse. By choosing one over another, they can add a little sweetness, a rich, toasty undertone, or a bright fruity note. Their cask policy is key and one of the ways that they achieve consistent quality with every drop.
