Casa Ferreirinha Vinha Grande Douro Branco 2015 - June 2017 Decanter review
This historic producer, founded in 1751, now have 520 hectares of vineyard in the Douro in all of its three sub-regions: Lower Corgo, Upper Corgo and Douro Superior. The winemaking is headed up by the talented Luis Sottomayor, he manages to restrain the Douro’s natural exuberance to produce wines that have a freshness, allied to a wonderful depth and texture.
This premium Douro white blend, based around the Viosinho grape, was sourced from Ferreirinha's Quinta do Sairrão estate located at a high altitude in the Cima Corgo region.
Vinha Grande Douro Branco 2015 has a golden colour with citric nuances. It has an intense aroma, with white and tropical fruit standing out, as well as floral notes, light minerality and well-integrated discrete wood which gives it good complexity. It has good volume and lively acidity on the palate, giving it notable freshness, with hints of white fruit and light asparagus. Its finish is long, elegant and balanced.
