Chateau Fombrauge is one of the most ancient crus of the Saint Emilion appellation.  From the Canolle family in the 15th century to Bernard Magrez today, six families have succeeded each other in owning and running Château Fombrauge, providing the estate, which harvested its first grapes in 1599, with a rare stability and a pioneering spirit beyond compare.

The massive 60 hectare Right Bank vineyard of Chateau Fombrauge is planted to 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard is the largest Classified Growth in Saint Emilion and second biggest vineyard in the entire Saint Emilion appellation.

The 2017 vintage is 93% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are whole better fermented. Malolactic fermentation is usually equally split between cement or steel vats and French oak barrels. The wine of Chateau Fombrauge is then aged in 50% new, French oak barrels for an average of 16 to 18 months before bottling. The actual length in barrel of time can vary, depending on the character of the vintage.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Fombrauge leaps from the glass with notes of baked cherries, plum preserves and raspberry pie plus wafts of tobacco, cedar chest and underbrush. Medium-bodied, the palate has a soft, plush texture and lovely freshness, finishing long and fragrant.

Chateau Fombrauge is better with at least 4-6 years of bottle age and is best enjoyed in the first 5-20 years of life.
