Chivite Coleccion 125 Chardonnay 2016 - July 2020 Decanter review

J Chivite Family Estates is an illustrious family with one of the longest histories of winemaking in Spain. When Julian Chivite Lopez inherited the now renowned estate, he acquired eleven generations of experience to go with it. Convinced that the wine’s future lay in the quest for excellence, he introduced sweeping improvements and innovations throughout the winery. His dogged commitment to quality was reflected in the wines themselves, which today are a benchmark for innovative, prestigious Spanish products.

Chivite Colección 125 Blanco is a remarkable Spanish white wine produced in DO Navarra. Produced by Julian Chivite, it is made from a careful selection of the very best vines from Finca Lagardeta.

After a meticulous harvest, the grapes were cold-macerated for 6 to 8 hours, and subsequently crushed with a pneumatic press. The must was fermented in French oak barrels. Aged for 11 months on its lees with periodic stirrings. Then aged for a further months in-bottle before commercial release.

Chardonnay 100%.

Pale yellow with green hints. Intense and complex aroma of smoke, bread crust, fresh hazelnuts, bergamot, mint. On the palate, it has a dense and flavourful evolution with a silky and fresh finish. Lingering hints of verbena.

ABV = 13.6%.
