Among the Calchaquí Valley’s lush vegetation, rivers and rocky mountains, there emerges, unexpectedly, a stretch of desert. At an altitude of 1,800 metres, with its ever-present sunshine and ideal temperature range - hot days and cool nights - the environment is perfect for the cultivation of vines. It is at the heart of this valley where El Esteco stands, with 1,000 acres of vineyards across this unique region. French immigrants David and Salvador Michel founded the winery in 1892, taking advantage of this special region to produce distinctive and elegant highend wines, with great concentration of colour, deep aromas and well-defined flavours. Their determination has certainly paid off; El Esteco is the leading winery in Salta.
65% Malbec, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. Concentrated bunches of small grains selected from the best rows of the parcels are manually harvested in 18Kg plastic bins. A second selection is done in the crushing area. Pre-fermentative macerations are made at 7°C, and native yeasts are used for the alcoholic fermentation. Before malolactic fermentation, each variety is racked into new French oak barrels of 225 liters where the fermentation process is carried on and aged for 18 months. The blend is defined after a selection of the best 8 barrels. Bottled without stabilization and filtration in order to maintain the essence of the wine.
A full bodied, concentrated wine rich with flavours of dark fruits, chocolate, baked plums & herbaceous notes. The palate is complex & explosive with a great concentration of flavour supported by firm, juicy tannins.
