A beautiful and bright yellow with deep gold tint. The nose has complex flavours of fresh almond and rose, opening up to a nice touch of crystallized fruits and fresh grape. A deep and generous palate, with the elegant aromas of the nose. The balance is well set by the freshness and the sweetness is not dominant. A nice, delicate medium dry wine with a long and spicy aftertaste dominated by hints of pepper and rose.
A delicate, pale lemon colour with light floral aromas of jasmine, pear and lightly toasted bread. The palate is juicy with pure, citrus fruit character and a long, fine-textured finish.
We are delighted to have secured a parcel of this gem of a Pouilly Fume. Lots of fresh, herbaceous fruit with a hint of liquorice on the nose. In the mouth, there are delicious Sauvignon Blanc characteristics with citrus and gooseberry flavours.
The Binner estate was established in 1770. The family owns nine hectares in Alsace but only six hectares are cultivated with vines. They are a certified organic producer and also practice biodynamic farming. They produce "natural wines" using very few additives and no technological manipulations.
This is a highly aromatic and floral wine with spicy notes. Green apples, pear, lemon drops, peach and lychee mingle seamlessly on the palate with minerality, floral and sweet spice flavours. This is a dry style of wine which has a long finish.
This wine is the colour of yellow gold or straw-coloured with gently glowing silvery. To the nose, its aromas suggest broom, white roses, acacia, honeysuckle, fern, verbena, lemon-grass, and citrus fruits (grapefruit, mandarin oranges). In the mouth, the finish adds nuances of pine, quince and fennel. This wine is fresh and luscious as well as dry and well-fruited. It has good concentration backed by sufficient acidity to ensure its keeping quality. It is full and smooth in character.
Daniel Dampt is one of Burgundy’s most celebrated winemarkers, and he produces wines under both his own name and that of Jean Defaix, his father-in-law. This Defaix Chablis is clean, ultra-pure with bright steely acidity and not so much as a sniff of oak. This makes it pair perfectly with fish dishes such as sea bass or oysters and it is a superb, classic wine to use as an aperitif. The Chardonnay grapes were hand-selected and bottled on the estate, ensuring that only the best fruit was used to produce the wine, making it a perfect example of the distinctive taste and freshness of Chablis. It’s never cheap, Chablis, but this is both excellent quality and value.
It's on our Christmas List because.... it does everything that a fine, rich white Burgundy does without the cost. It's wonderfully rich and creamy: a "mock Mersault", if you will. If only a real white Burgundy will cut it for you, we suggest the excellent-value Rully from Ponsot or the Santenays from Antoine Olivier (see below).
Maison Louis Latour is one of the most innovative producers in Burgundy whilst maintaining its traditional image. In 1979, with a view to expanding the business, the valley of the Ardèche river with its clay and limestone-based soils was chosen as the ideal location to produce top-quality Chardonnay wines.
The Grand Ardèche comes from the best vineyards, carefully selected every year when harvesting begins. The grapes are pressed and the must is placed immediately in oak barrels made by the cooperage at Latour, where the wine will age for approximately 10 months, like the great wines of Burgundy.
The Grand Ardeche is made traditionally in oak barrels and undergoes complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 8 to 10 months in oak barrels (20% new) which are from the Louis Latour cooperage, made of French oak and are medium toasted.
All the flavour and almost all the complexity of a Meursault for a third of the price! Oak-aged for 10 months, the wine has a clear, golden-yellow colour and a powerful, elegant bouquet of vanilla, exotic fruits, honey and subtle spices. Wonderfully rounded and fleshy on the palate, it displays honey and gingerbread flavours that persist in the mouth.
Bright lemon yellow in colour, with abundant aromas of citrus and stone fruit. The medium-bodied palate shows lovely purity of lemon and mineral flavours, balanced by riper peach and pear fruit, which last well on the elegant and refreshing finish.
