This is a blend of four different grapes sourced from various producing areas and selected for their varietal characteristics which together make for a vibrant, supple wine with smooth tannins. It is comprised of Barbera from Paarl and Swartland, Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch, Sangiovese from Darling and Nebbiolo from Paarl.
After being de-stalked and lightly crushed, the juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks. After malolactic fermentation the various components were sent to 225l barrels for 16 months. The wine was matured in a selection of French and American oak, mainly 2nd to 4th fill. The components were kept separate for maturation and then blended to achieve the style that "Don Goatti" (aka the winemaker) is looking for. The wine was lightly filtered before bottling.
We feel the winemakers for the Goatfather sum this wine up perfectly: "We’re gonna make you an offer you can’t refuse. This Italian blend of Don Goatti’s personal selection comprises of Sangiovese, Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon and Nebbiolo, culminating in a medium-bodied wine with an unmistakable Mediterranean flair." The wine has a bright red colour with aromas of red cherries and vanilla as well as hints of spice. The flavours are also based on rich red fruit. This wine goes well with creamy pasta dishes, tomato-based braised meats and, lasagne.
