Huaso De Sauzal 2014 - April 2017 Decanter review

Nose of cherries in liqueur and cocoa, ripe, floral, very expressive, turning more complex and fresher over time, developing more complexity and freshness as it sits in the glass. The palate is fresh with flavors of acid berries, very fine tannins and great acidity, much higher than your average Pais (it has a pH of 3.5 and 13.5% alcohol). Clean, focused and pure, opening up with time in the glass.

Tiefenbrunner Lagrein 'Castel Turmhof' DOC 2013 (1x 75cl)

Deep garnet red in colour, with a delicate bouquet showing the cherry and violet note characteristic of the varietals; subtle wood tones complement its full and round fruit flavors. Compact tannins and an agreeable acidity carry this traditional South Tyrolean wine through to its long finish.

Heredad Ugarte Martin Cendoya Reserva 2007 (1x 75cl)

Ruby red with a clean and bright purple rim. Intense aromas of ripe black fruit such as blackberry and plum on the nose with notes of liquorice and toasted oak. On the palate it is rich and silky, full bodied and with great structure.

La Rioja Alta Vina Ardanza Reserva 2007 (1x 75cl)

The wine is made up of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha. Ruby coloured and perfumed with dark fruit, cinnamon, Christmas spice, figs and fresh espresso. Complex, dark berry compote and liquorice dominate, followed by a lighter taste of freshly ground coffee, allspice and black cherry on the lengthy finish. This wine will peak for the next 10-15 years, but can be enjoyed beyond 2030.
