Virus days

UPDATE - 11am, Thursday, 18th June

  • Online orders continue. At our warehouse, where we have long had few staff and much space, we have separated our team into separate offices to deal with incoming orders.
  • To protect staff and customers, we have, for now, closed our shop on South Street in Perth. We do not plan to open it in the imminent future. Please do not call the shop to place orders. All activities - both online orders and local deliveries - see details below - will continue from our warehouse, see below.
  • We continue to despatch via Parcelforce. We have been highly impressed with their level of service in the last few, very difficult weeks. However, with fewer and more separated staff - both at depots and driving vehicles - they are not guaranteeing 24-hour deliveries. Our deliveries are typically taking 48 hours (those North of the Border and in the very North of England tend to happen inside 24 hours). We are seeing some - but very few - deliveries take up to 3 days. Again, please bear with this. At a time when a number of couriers have stopped working, we believe that this is the best service we can provide
  • That is, we can guarantee same-working-day despatch for orders received by noon Monday-Friday, but not next-working-day delivery (for the time being). 
  • We understand - and very much see - that most customers want items in short order. With very few exceptions (which mainly, are represented by our new, here-in-a-few-days Bordeaux collection), we are only selling items that we hold in stock. Meeting orders with stock items helps us supply customers rapidly at times of high demand, without the uncertainty of possible supply shortages or delivery failures. The few exceptions carry no end of not-yet-in-stock warnings on their product pages!

  • This does reduce our range of offered wines to around 650 from our usual 1,500. However, all the classics are still here. We are bringing in heaps of stock to keep supplies coming to our customers and supply is holding firm.
  • We are receiving many emails wondering where many wines have gone. The above two bullets clarify why. Do please email us with requests if wines you seek are not on the website (to mark@exelwines.co.uk), there is a fair chance we may be able to supply them, but it may take us a day to find out!
  • To all of our customers - long-time regulars and new disoverers of Exel - thank you so much for your support right now. We're doing everything we can to keep wines coming and reciprocate on that support!

If we and wine can (sensibly) help, we’re here.

We know we’re hardly a front-line service, but, being a well-rehearsed online supplier, we can have wines on your doorstep very quickly. We’re very much seeing that customers plan to enjoy the pleasure of wine in the weeks ahead. We’re putting that down, at least in part, to less eating-and-drinking out (our major sympathies to those negatively affected, including the restaurants we serve and the suppliers that serve them (with us)).

 

Online

We’ll keep doing what we do best and what it says on our logo: great wines delivered. You want brilliant wines with the minimum of stress; this, we can do. Only immediately-stocked wines are now being sold with a few exceptions (as above in UPDATE).

 

Perth area local deliveries

Provided you are at home and over 18, we will deliver your (sanitized) box of wine, spirits and/or beer to your doorstep. No physical contact is necessary; payment is made at point of order (phone or online).

NEW! - Orders between £50 and £100: To make things a little easier on the purse strings, we are introducing a reduced minimum order quantity for home delivery (ie £50). Please note, however, there will be a £5 delivery charge for a £50-£100 order. If this size of order is for you, we request that you telephone or email your order to our warehouse directly (details below), rather than using the website. The online payment page is not currently equipped to handle the reduced delivery charge, you see.

Orders over £100: To qualify for free delivery, your order should be a minimum of £100 in wines, spirits and/or beer and the delivery address must be in one of the following areas: Perth (city), Scone, Auchterarder, Aberuthven, Dunning, Bridge of Earn, Abernethy, Glencarse, Stanley or Luncarty.

As before, you can either order online (see below) or phone us (see also below). 

Although delivery days are likely to be Tuesdays & Fridays, we will aim to get your order to you sooner if we can. Special deliveries can be arranged if necessary.  If you have neighbours in need of ‘topping up’, and/or to reach the minimum order value, you are most welcome to carry out a community shopping order.

Don’t forget, we also stock beers from our friends at Abernyte Brewery albeit they are producing on a limited basis.  Please check what stock we have available when you place your order.  

Home/local deliveries - ordering by phone

Call our Inveralmond warehouse team (01738 493535). The shop is closed. We will take your call between 8:30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

We can inform you of what we have in stock over the phone. To save time, you can always check the website now you're here.

We can take payment over the phone and organise delivery arrangements at the same time. 

Home/local deliveries - ordering via our website (ie for orders over £100)

Select your items into the basket.

During checkout – in/at the Important Delivery Details box - insert “home delivery".

You may need to sign in as a guest if you have not ordered before: insert your details where requested (we are super-careful with these).

In the Shipping Method page - this is the important bit - tick Collect from Perth shop - meaning you will see free delivery as long as a) you are within the areas mentioned above and b) over that £100 order value.

We will then contact you regarding delivery. 

Bear in mind, whether online or phone-in, that someone over 18 years old must be at home to take the delivery. Crazy time as this is, licencing laws still apply...
