Montagny is the southernmost appellation of the Côte Chalonnaise. Spread over 4 villages (Montagny les Buxy, Buxy, Saint Vallerin and Jully les Buxy), this appellation only produces Chardonnay. This 1er Cru “Les Coères” is shared between 3 different villages : Montagny, Saint-Vallerin and Jully-les-Buxy on very gentle east facing slopes. Vines are situated on very gentle east facing slopes on soils that are shallow, stony and chalky.
This wine is entirely matured in stainless steel tanks and on lees during 10 months, with weekly stirring to achieve roundness and toasty notes. The wine has full malolactic fermentation and is not fined or filtered.
The Les Coères is brilliant gold with a hint of green. At first it shows crisp mineral notes on the nose, but after aeration it gains complexity and exotic fruit characteristics. A powerful, elegant and rich wine with bagfuls of character. Over the years it will open up to reveal honeyed, buttery and smoky notes.
