Planeta tells a story of wine, olive oil and hospitality with one common denominator – the love of Sicily. Brothers and sisters, children and grandchildren, all with an unquenchable wish to do, to change, to innovate and to rediscover traditions. In 1995 there was one vineyard, one winery, the first wines and many dreams. After twenty years there are six wineries in as many areas of heavenly Sicily producing different wines, all DOC which are examples of six extraordinary territories. A journey which never finishes and which will continue with the next generation.
The Syrah vines that Planeta use for the Maroccoli are planted at an altitude of 415 metres above sea level with a cordon spur vertical trellis system of training. Density of planting is 5000 vines per hectare.
The grapes were harvested from Planeta's Dispensa and Gurra vineyards. They were destalked then fermented on the skins in stainless steel fermentation vats, then following a malolactic fermentation, were aged in Allier oak barrels 30% of which were new.
Sweet oriental spices and a fleeting recall of toasted cocoa accompany the wine in all its tasting processes, providing hints of sun-ripened black fruit, now with more wintery notes of leather and humus. An enveloping sensation recalls the consistency of velvet with a minty and black pepper finish.
This wine is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
