Produced from Poliziano's vineyards in the Maremma IGT zone, in the coastal zone of Tuscany, some 70 km south of Siena. Powerful yet elegant, smooth and yet well structured - Mandrone is obtained primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon, with small but vital additions of Alicante and Petit Verdot. These last two are essential in giving Mandrone its distinctive Mediterranean character - sunny, clean and definite - that renders it unique and unmistakable.
The grapes for this wine are harvested by hand. The three varieties used are as follows: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 10% Alicante. Fermentation is carried out separately for each grape variety. Maceration takes 20- 25 days (depending on the species and the phenolic maturity of the grapes) at a controlled temperature, with milling and delestage. The wine spends 18 months in new barriques of French oak with a subsequent rest of 6 months in bottles.
This wine has the potential to age for at least 15 years.
Deep purple red. Aromas of dark berries and hints of grilled red pepper with spicy notes (cinnamon and bay leaves) and balsamic echoes. Elegant structure defined by silky, warm tannins and great flavour intensity, especially from the Petit Verdot. Powerful and persistent mineral finish.
