El Circo Garnacha 2018 (1x75cl)

El Circo means 'the circus', and each of the varieties in this range is represented by a different circus performer. The wines are made by the co-operative located in DO Cariñena. A new, modern winery was built in 2002. Winemaker Marcelo Morales Calderon is Chilean, having previously worked for Carmen and Veramonte among others. He came for the 2000 vintage and stayed, as he was excited both by the quality of the fruit and the high standard of the facilities at his disposal.

The soil, where the short bush vines for this Garnacha are grown, is poor. The vines are planted on unirrigated land. The grapes ripen slowly, allowing their full potential to come through.

Fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, with regular pump overs. Maceration took place for 10 to 15 days with natural malolactic fermentation.

Ruby red with purple hues, this Garnacha has intense aromas of ripe red fruit such as strawberries and cherries followed by a touch of spice. On the palate, it has smooth, firm tannins with a racy acidity and a very fruity finish.

Les Mougeottes Pinot Noir IGP Pays d'Oc 2018 (1x75cl)

The Les Mougeottes wines are from the region to the east of Carcassonne. Ripe grapes are essential for a good Pinot Noir. The full aromatic potential has already been developed, but the sugar content should be relatively low in order to pre-serve the variety's elegant style. For that, a part of the crop is harvested quite early and ferments at low temperature exalting fruity aromas. The other part, fully ripe, under-goes a traditional, long maceration. About one third ages in French oak barrels for many months, adding complexity to the wine.

100% Pinot Noir.

This wine has a clean and precise bouquet with black cherries and raspberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit and a silky long finish.

ABV = 13.0%.

Les Vignerons D Estezargues Cotes du Rhone Terres de Mistral 2018 (1x75cl)

Les Vignerons d'Estezargues is a southern French cooperative based in the village of Villeneuve-les-Avignon in the Gard region of the Rhone Valley. It was founded in 1965 and consists of 10 independent vignerons who farm a total of 420 hectares and who currently employ the services of the youthful but experienced Denis Deschamps to oversee the wine making. This excellent co-op is set apart by the fact that only 'natural' wine making procedures are adopted - no external yeasts, no fining, no enzymes, no sulphur and so on - all of which contribute to very precise and structured wines. The 'Terre de Mistral' is a juicy blend of Grenache and Syrah and is unoaked and unfiltered.

A vibrant purple-red in the glass. Aromas of ripe red fruits, mocha and herbs of the garrigue. On the palate, warm mellow with smooth tannins and a refreshing acidity. Lovely floral finish. Try with coq au vin, salade Lyonnaise or roast chcken with artichokes and wild mushrooms.

ABV = 14.5%.

Palladino Rosso Riserva DOC Biferno 2015 (1x75cl)

The 2012 vintage was Awarded 91 points and Highly Recommended status by Decanter (www.decanter.com) in August 2017 (see blue link below).

Palladino Rosso Riserva, DOC Biferno 2012 - 2017 Decanter review

Molise is located in the southern part of Central Italy. Only 2% of its production is graded as DOC. Hillside vineyards with excellent exposure, morainic and calcareous soils together with a combination of maritime and continental climate provide a favorable terroir for the cultivation of vines. The 15 to 25 year old vines are trained in the Sylvoz and Spur Cordon fashion, with 2800 to 3300 vines planted per hectare, yields are around 110 hl/ha. Grapes were hand and machine harvested in late September.

Made from equal thirds of Aglianico, Montepulciano and Trebbiano. Traditional vinification with 10-12 days of maceration at a controlled temperature of 25°-26°C. The wine is aged for 18 months in large oak barrels, and the for 18 months in stainless steel tanks.

Purply red colour that will develop to garnet with age. The bouquet is complex and intense with hints of blackberry jam. On the palate the wine is velvety and harmonious with pleasant, firm tannins.

The wine pairs well with roast meats, game, pheasant or salami. Serve at 18-20° (ie really quite warm!)

ABV = 13.0%.

Primera Luz Merlot 2019 (1x75cl)

Primera Luz is produced by Viñedos Puertas, a family-run business founded in 1950. The vineyard is comprised of 80 hectares of fields irrigated by water flowing down from the Andes Mountains, and a winery known as El Milagro, located at the heart of the Curico Valley. The wines embody the character of the region, and display brilliant freshness.

This wine is full of fresh, raspberry and strawberry aromas, with a light and juicy palate that is bursting with forest fruit. It is easy-drinking and moreish. This wine is a great match for many foods including lamb chops with coarse-grain mustard and red-tomato chutney, grilled lamb kebabs with cumin and cinnamon, or a duck salad.

ABV = 13.0%.
