Beronia Blanco Viura Rioja 2016 (1x75cl)

Bodegas Beronia is quintessentially Rioja. Its wines are defined by the region and the soils in which the vines are grown, and its name linked to the history of the land where the winery is found. Beronia was founded in 1973 by a group of businessmen, friends from the Basque country who would come to La Rioja on holiday. The friends had a great love of food and wine and created their own gastronomic society in the area. They decided to produce their own wines to enjoy with the local cuisine,  specialising in Reserva and Gran Reserva style wines. Today Beronia is one of the most renowned Spanish wineries both in international and domestic markets, producing pure and traditional Rioja wines.

The grapes were harvested at the end of September. This variety gives fruity wines with floral notes but also has noteable levels of acidity. The grapes underwent static maceration without de-stalking for 16 hours. Fermentation was carried out at a controlled temperature of between 14 and 16°C for 15 days. The wine then remained in bottle for two months before being released to the market.

This Viura has a bright yellow and green colour.  On the nose it is fresh with intense herbal aromas including fennel.  There is also a notable presence of white fruits such as pear and surprisingly also orange peel.  On the palate this wine is full, round and lively with aniseed notes which together with the fruit gives freshness.  It is long and persistent.

This young, fresh wine should be served well chilled and is ideal with salads, fish and white meats.

El Coto Rioja Blanco 2017 (1x75cl)

El Coto was founded in 1970 in Rioja Alavesa and has grown from modest beginnings into one of the best known of Rioja producers. Today El Coto has over 700 hectares of vineyard in production across the three Rioja DOCa sub-zones of Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa. They also source grapes from all three areas, but mostly from Rioja Alavesa. Head winemaker Cesar Fernandez oversees production, starting with hand-picking into 350 kg crates to ensure the grapes arrive at the winery in pristine condition. Modern and intelligently designed, the emphasis in the winery is on temperature control and gentle handling of the grapes.

The Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc grapes were sourced from the high-altitude vineyards in Rioja Baja, vineyards are over 750 metres above sea level. The Viura grapes were mainly sourced from Rioja Alta, from limestone and clay soils.

The Rioja Blanco is fermented at 14-18ºC in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, to preserve aromas and retain freshness, No malolactic fermentation is allowed to take place and the wine is bottled without ageing.

Pale yellow in colour, the wine is dry and fresh on the palate with aromas of peaches, apples, citrus, tropical fruits and a little banana. The finish is fresh and fruity with hints of melon. A zingy and refreshing wine.

Rioja Blanco (Otoman), Sierra Cantabria 2016 (1x75cl)

Founded in 1957 by Guillermo Eguren, Sierra Cantabria is nestled in the heart of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, a town of great winemaking tradition, situated in a unique location between the River Ebro and the Sierra Cantabria mountain range. The Sierra Cantabria mountain range (1,200 m. of altitude) and the river Ebro (350 m.), create a special microclimate with Mediterranean and Continental characteristics - providing mild winters and gentle summers - unique for vine cultivation. On the other hand, the summer thermal jump (intense heat during the day with fresh night temperatures) creates an increase in the level of polyphenols, normally associated with excellent quality wines.

35% Viura, 16% Malvasia, 49% Sauvignon Blanc.

Otoman, referring to the silk trade in Turkey, is a fresh and expressive wine reflecting the identity of La Rioja’s Sonsierra region. It's crisp, silky and delicate with primary fresh citrus fruit, apricots and hints of vanilla.

Sierra Cantabria Organza Blanco Reserva 2015 - Sept 2017 Decanter review

Founded in 1957 by Guillermo Eguren, Sierra Cantabria is nestled in the heart of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, a town of great winemaking tradition, situated in a unique location between the River Ebro and the Sierra Cantabria mountain range. The Sierra Cantabria mountain range (1,200 m. of altitude) and the river Ebro (350 m.), create a special microclimate with Mediterranean and Continental characteristics - providing mild winters and gentle summers- unique for vine cultivation. Everything in the vineyard is done with respect for the environment as well as following the biorhythms of the plant.

The grapes are harvested by hand with only the best quality grapes making it into the winery.  Further selection then happens in the winery using a sorting table.  The must is cold soaked for 14 hours prior to fermentation. It is fermented in new French oak barrels from the Vosgues area. The temperature is controlled between 14 and 16º C. This wine is fermented only using indigenous yeast selected from their vineyards.  The wine is aged for 11 months on its fine lees, with batonnage taking place twice a week during the first six months.

The Organza Blanco 2016 is bright gold in colour. It offers a nose of tropical fruit, minerality and sweet spices. Wild herbs, beeswax, grapefruit and nutmeg spice combine appealingly on the palate here.

Vintae Heredad de Tejada White Rioja, Bodega Classica 2017 (1x75cl)

Heredad de Tejada is a collection of wines made in the heart of Rioja Alta. Its winemaking process combines tradition and innovation, using modern facilities to create wines while following a natural process. For example, this wine is made in large vats, imitating the traditional winemaking method in "lagos abiertos", where whole grapes are deposited in open vats and the carbonic maceration takes place.

The harvest takes place during the entire month of october. Picking of the fruit is conducted in 15 kg. boxes, which are quickly transported to the winery; the clusters that do not meet optimum conditions are disregarded.

The wine is aged for 2 months in French oak barrels.

This is a straw yellow colour wine. Ripe fruit, dates and banana notes stand out on the nose in combination with the nuances of a Crianza, making it an interesting and complex wine. On the palate, it is fresh and fleshy, leaving a long, balanced and pleasant aftertaste.
