Gilt Single Malt Gin - Scotland (1x 70cl)

Gilt gin is the result of a meeting of minds. A Scotsman and a Spaniard were in a bar. As we know from experience the conversation often turns to drink in these situations. They dreamt of the idea of a gin. A Scottish gin produced from only the finest malt barley and botanicals of the highest standard. Botanicals that will marry with the base spirit to create one of the most outstanding craft gins. A bespoke still would need to be used to enhance the natural flavours and bring this marriage of premium raw materials together. The Scotsman scurried home and locked himself away in the still house, determined to create a gin to surpass the Spaniard's exacting standards. Twelve months later Gilt Gin was born.

This delightful Scottish Gin is produced from only the finest malt barley and botanicals of the highest standard. The signature of this gin is the light citrus botanicals with the balance of fine flavour that meets the standards of the most discerning taste. The taste is dry with punches of juniper and Cardamom, leaving a warm thirst quenching finish.

Hine Antique XO Cognac (1x 70cl)

Six generations of the Hine family have succeeded one another at the head of Thomas Hine & Co. The tasting rooms at 16 Quai de l’Orangerie have seen it all, from the Great French Wine Blight to local conflicts, world wars, first bottlings, international incidents, economic booms and slumps, legendary river floods, connoisseur parties and exalted blends. Today, under the watchful eye of sixth-generation member Bernard Hine, a dedicated team of twenty people strive to preserve and act upon 255 years of spirited history.

“To sing, to laugh, to dream,
To walk in my own way and be alone,
Free, with an eye to see things as they are,
A voice that means manhood—to cock my hat
Where I choose—”

Cyrano de Bergerac, his plumed hat and poetic speech are the witnesses to a final, lingering mouthful that never ceases to surprise. In a blend of mature eaux-de-vie from the Grande Champagne, Antique sets out to be different. A perpetual conversation between the fruit and oak reveals notes of hazelnut, ripe quince and mild spices, appearing amid accents of fig tart and blonde tobacco. Mischievous complexity comes into being, along with sleek vivacity.

Accompanied by mature mimolette or cheddar cheese, a roasted pineapple or a few pieces of orange chocolate, Antique lingers even longer. To be savoured to the soundtrack of a prelude by Glenn Gould.

Hine H by Hine VSOP Cognac (1x 70cl)

Six generations of the Hine family have succeeded one another at the head of Thomas Hine & Co. The tasting rooms at 16 Quai de l’Orangerie have seen it all, from the Great French Wine Blight to local conflicts, world wars, first bottlings, international incidents, economic booms and slumps, legendary river floods, connoisseur parties and exalted blends. Today, under the watchful eye of sixth-generation member Bernard Hine, a dedicated team of twenty people strive to preserve and act upon 255 years of spirited history.

H by Hine is whimsical. If it were a young man, it would have the keen eye of Dick Diver in Fitzgerald’s Tender is the Night. Adventurous, lively and elegant, it is the ideal sidekick for daring cocktails and a flamboyant soloist when served neat with a dash of cold tonic. Expressive yet discreet, its notes of iris, fresh apricot, acacia and white pepper chime with its sprightly and joyful demeanour. Feels like Coachella in a bottle.

H by Hine is a young cognac with a taste for adventure and originality. Serve frozen in a shot glass with sashimi. Or simply over ice with tonic, cider or ginger ale, garnished with a twist of lime, cucumber or rosemary. Add as a surprising twist to a punch when too many friends show up with very little time, or simply drizzle over a fresh peach salad.

Pampero Blanco Rum - Venezuela (1x 70cl)

Back in 1938, two friends with a passion for making rum decided to go their own way. Using oak barrels to pioneer a new ageing process, their rums took on such depth and smooth complexity, that even the government were convinced and changed the very laws of rum-making to enhance its quality. The benchmark for future generations was set, and Venezuelan rum was redefined forever.

Locally grown sugar cane reaches the distillery within 24 hours, ensuring the flavour and sugar content of their molasses remain of the highest quality. Their Amazonian location gives them an excellent source of natural mineral water, which is critical to the final quality of the rum. Unlike many distilleries, Pampero continues to use three different distillation processes for a purer, higher quality rum. After its initial distillation, the alcohol can be made 'lighter' or 'heavier' by undergoing its second and third distillations in a column, kettle, or pot still. Venezuela's high humidity, high temperatures, and nightly temperature drops provide intensive ageing conditions all year round, leading to a maturation rate approximately three times greater than that of scotch or cognac.

There’s more to Pampero Blanco than meets the eye. A good white rum should be fresh, clean, easy to mix and easy to drink. Blanco is all of these, but it’s also an aged rum, made from a blend of traditional white rum aged for up to 4 years.

Unlike most white rums which are distilled in column stills, the heavier rums of the Blanco blend are distilled in traditional copper pot stills, like those used for Scotch Whisky. Ex-whisky white oak casks lend Blanco its fruity notes and originally a golden colour, which is later removed through charcoal filtering. It is a Light, creamy and simple rum with flavours of blackcurrant, candy floss, green apple, banana, toffee and vanilla.

Pickerings Gin - Scotland (1x 70cl)

Pickering's Gin is based on an old Bombay recipe, handwritten on a fragment of paper dated 17 July 1947. Kept as a family secret for over 66 years, it only resurfaced in 2013 when distilling began at Summerhall, right in the heart of Edinburgh. When Pickering's opened Summerhall Distillery, it was the first exclusive gin distillery to be established in Edinburgh for over 150 years. Their gin is based on an original 1947 recipe. It features nine Bombay botanicals, engineered by us to create Pickering’s famous full-bodied flavour with perfect bitter-sweet balance.

Believe it or not, Pickering's gin only came into being in 2013.  Before that, Matt and Marcus (the founders) had been friends and business partners for years, with backgrounds in engineering, furniture restoration and property renovation. They were working at Summerhall when they spotted the derelict dogs kennels from the small animal hospital that once stood in the middle of the old Royal (Dick) Veterinary School. What to do with it? As fate would have it, Marcus had recently inherited a gin recipe from a friend of his late father. Hmmm… The next step seemed obvious. They built the distillery then, despite having no background in distilling, kept trying, testing and experimenting until they succeeded.

By the time they launched it in 2014, Pickerings had fine-tuned the recipe, perfecting its balance of botanicals and tweaking it to the contemporary palate. The result is a spectacularly smooth, refreshing and flavoursome gin. It is fresh, light and bold flavours of citrus and juniper give way to intense warming spice of cardamom, coriander seed and clove. We recommend that Pickering's is served with ice, tonic and a slice of pink grapefruit. (or anything else that takes your fancy!)

Stroh Inlander Rum 80% abv - Austria (1x 50cl)

Around 185 years ago the Stroh Spirits Manufactory was founded in Carinthia. It has become a piece of Austrian culinary culture and lifestyle. This local rum is an indispensable ingredient not only for food recipes but also for cocktails. Some of the most creative patissiers, kitchen chefs and bartenders in Austria have created recipes with Stroh Inländer Rum.

According to the EU regulation 110/2008, it is legally required that 100% of the rum must be made from sugar cane molasses in Austria, making it a protected Austrian specialty. Stroh Inländer Rum is distinguished by its fine fragrance and delicate rum note as well as its harmonious, flowery taste. This rum which has an alcohol content of 80% is driven by an incredible cult worldwide. Not only because of its taste and its primal power, but also because of a small crossed-out aircraft symbol on the bottle label. The transport of Stroh Inländer 80 is not compatible with the current security rules of air traffic so this cannot be taken on board an aircraft. Thanks to its unmistakable flavour, Stroh Inländer Rum owes its reputation not only to its unmistakable aroma, but also to the historic form of its bottle. The typically curved Flachmann style bottle originates from the American prohibition period, at a time when it was important to be able to hide the bottle easily on the body and transport it without being spotted.

At the heart of this spirit are Austrian pastry kitchens, coffee houses and confectioners. It would be unthinkable to many to produce sweet Austrian classics such as Applestrudel, Kaiserschmarren or biscuits without using Stroh Inländer rum. This makes it unique in culinary terms as nowhere else in the world is such a high percentage spirit (which to them is a staple store cupboard essential) on the shopping list for so many households and kitchen professionals! There are several recipes on Stroh's own website that you might like to try - click the following link for details. http://www.stroh.at/en/recipes.html

We would suggest trying Stroh Hot Chocolate which comprises of a measure of Stroh, added to a delicious cup of hot chocolate. The combination is amazing – offering a warm, slightly spiced hot chocolate with the distinctive flavour and aroma of Stroh. Our only advice is please use it sparingly.

Williams Chase Extra Dry GB Gin - England (1x 70cl)

The Williams Chase farm is based in Herefordshire, a county that boasts some of the richest farmland in the world. It is here they grow King Edward, Lady Claire and Lady Rosetta potatoes for the distillery. "Having the distillery located on the farm allows us to keep a watchful eye over how our potatoes move from field to bottle. It is this single-estate approach that makes us truly different – something you can taste in our award-winning vodka and gin."

Not many people know that gin is made from vodka (or neutral spirit). Unlike most distilleries, they make their spirits from scratch rather than buying in a readymade neutral grain spirit. People care about the terroir of their wines or the barrel ageing of their whiskies, so why shouldn’t they care about the traceability of their white spirits? They are even able to tell you in which field your vodka and gin came from.

In the bespoke copper gin still, Ginny, they add 10 botanicals into the carter head for vapour infusion through the spirit as well as 2 of their botanicals in the belly of the still giving a different complexity to this gin. Most distilleries are trying to use botanicals to mask the base spirit in their gin, whereas they use botanicals to draw out the best aspects and compliment the mineral earthiness in their potato spirit. For GB gin they infuse juniper buds and berries to ensure that we distil the driest gin possible, followed by cinnamon, ginger, almond, coriander, cardamom, cloves, angelica root, liquorice root and lemon to ensure a distinct, full and robust flavour. This smooth yet bursting with flavour gin creates a bittersweet symphony with a good mediterranean tonic.

The aromas are of zesty citrus and warm spicy notes. The palate has flavours of juniper, lemon and rich spices. The finish is full bodied with an extra dry finish.
