The wines of Tenuta Ammiraglia represent the Frescobaldi’s expression of modern Tuscan wines: influenced and inspired by the Mediterranean sun, sea and coastal breezes. The modern Ammiraglia winery, designed by the architect Piero Sartogo, is reminiscent of the prow of a ship pointing towards the sea. Perfectly integrated amid the hills and covered with greenery, it combines the most recent technological innovations with respect for the land and surrounding nature. The wines of Tenuta Ammiraglia are distinguished by the freshness, minerality and richness of the fruit.
The growing season was characterised by a relatively dry autumn followed by a winter with temperatures that never fell below zero and a mild spring that stimulated the plant’s awakening. The flowering phase, began approximately 10 days earlier than the previous year. The spring rains ensured that the plants had the necessary water reserves to sustain themselves throughout the extremely dry summer, which was, however, not excessively hot. The result was a harvest noteworthy for the impeccable health of the plants and grapes.
Located in Magliano in the Maremma on the southern tip of Tuscany, the Ammiraglia estate boasts 150 hectares of vineyards that blanket gently rolling hills overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. In this area the amount of sun and reflected light reach the highest levels and together with the marine breezes create particularly favourable growing conditions. To enhance the unique character of this territory a reservoir was created to collect water and give freshness to the vineyards during the driest months of the year. The soil in the vineyard is sandy and clay, with a good depth and has a marginally high acidity. The combination of all of these factors, impart the wines of Ammiraglia with exceptional richness and aromas that are unique to Maremma.
The grapes were harvested at optimum maturity. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28°C. Maceration on the skins lasted for 13 days and malolactic fermentation took place immediately after the initial fermentation. The wine was matured for 12 months in second and third passage large oak barrels, prior to being bottled.
Cabernet Sauvignon 70%, Merlot 20%, Cabernet Franc 5%, Sangiovese 5%.
An intense wine showing blackcurrant fruit with a hint of olbas oil and dark chocolate with a long, firm finish. Wonderful aromas of deep, dark fruits- blackberry and blackcurrant give way to spiced notes of liquorice and vanilla. Enveloping and beautifully complex, with fine and elegant tannins and a deliciously, long finish.
