Viña Leyda was founded in 1998, in Leyda Valley, Chile. Traditionally, Leyda Valley has been an area of natural pasture lands and basic crops such as wheat and barley. After evaluating the potential conditions of the area, a crucial investment was made which enabled water to be brought from the Maipo River through an eight kilometer pipeline. Leyda have now planted 230 hectares of vineyards.
The grapes were hand harvested. After de-stemming, 30% of the grapes were not passed through crusher in order to keep some amount of whole grapes during cold maceration and the beginning of fermentation. The grapes were chilled to 10°C and remained in open stainless steel tanks for 6 days under anaerobic conditions before selected yeast inoculation. Fermentation occurred at 27- 28°C for 7 days with a “punching down” regime of 3-4 times per day. The wine was racked into 2nd use French oak barrels and aged for 10 months.
This is a great exponent of Pinot Noir, aromatically fresh and complex. A juicy, fruity and elegant wine. It has a beautiful, bright colour. Clean and fruity on the nose, with hints of red cherries, raspberries and a subtle wild herb note. Las Brisas is delicate and refined on the palate. Juicy with ripe flavours of berries combined with mineral notes and a lively acidity.
